COLUMBIA — Seated in a red wingback chair, wearing a hat that just wouldn’t stop slipping over his eyes, Drink Small mused about time.
“If you want my time, you got to give me time to tell you,” the Bishopville native told a Free Times reporter. “Time don’t wait on nobody.”
He rhymed some more about time, referencing Methuselah, Mozart and Einstein. He found a melody on the six-string electric guitar placed on his lap, his friends Rickey Poppell (on drums) and Todd Edmunds (on bass) picking up the groove as Small sang and strummed and picked. He calls his unusual tangles of philosophical musing and rhyme “Drinkisms.”
“Whatever Drink think and it comes out of his mouth, that's Drinkism,” said his wife, Adrina.
