Thousands of Brits are jetting off to Christmas markets abroad at this time of the year; enjoying a festive atmosphere, local delicacies you can’t buy in the UK and of course, indulging in a spot of Christmas shopping. But holidaymakers bringing back gifts from overseas are warned they could be fined up to £5,000 if they don’t follow strict rules.
In April this year the UK government launched a temporary ban on bringing meat and dairy products into the UK from EU countries to help prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease . This means travellers can’t bring items such as cured meats, including Parma ham and chorizo, and dairy products like brie and camembert back from their holidays.
