A speeding wrong-way driver caused an overnight crash on DC-295 that killed the driver and left another person in critical condition, authorities say.
The crash occurred early Tuesday on DC-295 north of the Pennsylvania Avenue SE exit. Police responded at about 3:15 a.m.

According to the initial investigation, the driver of a Mercedes E350 was headed south in the northbound lanes at “a high rate of speed” and crashed into an Audi Q7 whose driver was headed in the right direction.
The Audi driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The Mercedes driver, Franyana Williams, of District Heights, was pronounced dead on the scene. She was 40.
No information was immediately released on why she was headed the wrong
