The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not completely dismiss the latest U.S.-backed proposal during his meeting with American officials on Tuesday. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that further adjustments are necessary for the plan to be acceptable to Moscow. "No, it would not be correct," Peskov stated. He emphasized that this was the first direct exchange of views and noted that some aspects were accepted while others were deemed unacceptable. He described this as a normal process in seeking a compromise.

In response to the U.S.-Russia discussions, two senior Ukrainian security officials were scheduled to meet in Brussels with European counterparts on Wednesday. Rustem Umerov, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Andrii Hnatov, the chief of the General Staff, were expected to participate in these talks. This meeting follows a high-stakes discussion between top U.S. officials and Putin in Moscow.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on social media, stating, "This is our ongoing coordination with partners, and we ensure that the negotiation process is fully active." After the Brussels meetings, Umerov and Hnatov are expected to prepare for discussions with representatives of the Trump administration.

The Moscow meeting was part of a series of discussions aimed at revising a peace plan initially proposed by the Trump administration to Ukraine last month. U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Jared Kushner, met with a Ukrainian delegation in Florida on Sunday to explore a potential agreement that could be acceptable to both Ukraine and Russia.

Witkoff and Kushner conveyed the results of their Florida meeting to Putin on Tuesday. The Kremlin's top foreign policy aide described the five-hour talks in Moscow as "useful" but noted that a compromise plan had yet to be established on the most challenging issues. Details of the current proposal have not been disclosed by any of the negotiating parties.

Peskov reiterated that Russia does not intend to publicly share the specifics of the discussions between Witkoff, Kushner, and Putin. He expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the Trump administration, stating that Russia is prepared to meet as often as necessary to reach a peaceful resolution.
