DUMAS, Texas (KFDA) - Ruben makes his way to Dumas where he visits a local senior center and learns why the High Plains Food Bank is so important to them.

Sara Bishop, director of the Moore County Senior Center, says the center started 25 years ago in the YMCA.

It then moved to the Lions Club because they outgrew the YMCA.

“They started a petition to get the building built, and then they raised the money for that and got the building built,” said Bishop.

Bishop says the center is important to Moore County because the county has a big community of seniors over 60 years old.

“It gives the seniors a place to get out of their home. Without places for them to go and do things that are inexpensive, they can’t do much because they’re on a fixed income,” said Bishop.
