Public school board scores have improved in nearly every category on Ontario’s latest rounds of standardized tests , but continue to lag behind provincial results .

The most significant gain at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) was in Grade 6 writing, for which 80 per cent of students met the provincial standard — which is equivalent to an A or B grade — in 2024-25, up eight points from 72 per cent the previous year.

Provincially, 86 per cent of students met the benchmark, up four points over the 2023-24 cohort.

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) tests are given annually in math, reading and writing to all students in grades 3 and 6 across the province, as well as in math to Grade 9s.
