DENVER – Onetime Rockies front office executive Josh Byrnes will return to the team as the club's new general manager, according to Major League sources.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was first to report the move, which has not been officially announced by the Rockies.
The hiring of Byrnes, 55, signals that new Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta is making how the Rockies acquire and develop players a priority. Byrnes has spent the last 11 seasons as the Dodgers’ senior vice president, baseball operations, overseeing the club’s scouting and player development.
Byrnes served as general manager of the Diamondbacks (2005-2010) and Padres (2011-2014), and has a deep history with the Rockies. After beginning his career with Cleveland in 1994 and rising through the scout
