YORK, Pa. — Energy bills are going up across the Commonwealth and many families are feeling the impact.
But a heating assistance program, which had been delayed because of the federal government shutdown, is now taking applications and can help eligible people pay the bills.
Here's what to know about the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.
What is LIHEAP?
LIHEAP is a program that offers cash grants to low-income people and families in order to help them pay their heating bills during the coldest months of the season. The grants are sent directly to the utility companies and do not need to be repaid. This year, the LIHEAP season runs from Dec. 3, 2025, through April 10, 2026.
