ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The rooftop of the Angels of Assisi shelter off Franklin Road SW in Roanoke is now a turf grass playground for the pets.
The space allows the pets waiting for their forever homes to run, play, and spend time with each other. It cost the shelter about $22,000 to complete.
Lisa O’Neill, the director, says they were thinking outside the box on how to create a space for them while being located in the city.
On top of that, there’s more in the works.
“In the coming weeks we are working on things called play groups. It’s a form of enrichment for shelter dogs. Yes, we take them outside and we walk them, and I’ve always been very proud of the fact that our Angels of Assisi dogs get used to the city, because that’s where we always have been.
