MOORHEAD — Minnesota State Moorhead quarterback Jack Strand is in the mix to be recognized as the player of the year in NCAA Division II football.

Strand was named one of the eight finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, an annual award that goes to the top player in D-II.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Strand becomes the first player in program history to be named a finalist for the award. The winner is set to be announced Dec. 19.

Six quarterbacks and two running backs were named finalists. The top two players from the division's four super regions made the national ballot.

MSUM is in Super Region Three.
