DALLAS — Dallas has hopped on the surging autonomous vehicle wave with Uber.
The booming rideshare company launched the option of robotaxis in Dallas on Wednesday, partnering with Avride, an autonomous vehicle startup based in Austin, according to a news release from Uber.
Requesting a ride in the Uber app now means a potential match with an electric Avride robotaxi, with the option to accept or decline if matched. Once accepted, riders can unlock the vehicle and start the trip from their phones. During the ride, if assistance is needed at any time, riders can contact support through the Uber app.
“Robotaxis are what we’ve been building from day one, and we’re excited to begin introducing them in Dallas, with our partners at Uber,” said Dmitry Polishchuk, CEO at Avride in the release.
