The St. Paul Street West bridge in St. Catharines is finally open to traffic once again after being under construction for about a year and closed since November of 2023.

The bridge – which was completed a year ahead of schedule – connects traffic on either side of the Canadian National Railway train tracks near the St. Catharines Train Station, making it easier for pedestrians and vehicles to get between the two sides. CN Rail owns the bridge.

Laura Garzon, head brewer at Cold Break Brewing, says the closure was bad for business, "even getting to work was a bit of a nightmare, sometimes."

Mayor Mat Siscoe said the bridge’s reopening makes it easier for people in the area to conduct their daily lives and paves the way for a future Go Transit station precinct, a collaboration between the
