Six people and two dogs were displaced Wednesday morning after a two-alarm fire in the French Quarter damaged their house, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters received a 911 call a little after 7:30 a.m. reporting a fire in the 700 block of Burgundy Street. The first crew arrived around 7:44 a.m. and noticed smoke coming from the building’s rear, firefighters said.
The crew was directed to the origin of the fire, and saw occupants attempting to put it out with a garden hose. There were flames between the first and second floors, firefighters said.
A second alarm was issued out of “an abundance of caution” and so that there would be plenty of firefighters to handle evacuations and contain the blaze, according to the NOFD.
