Nearly six months after 39-year-old Arthur Folasa Ah Loo was fatally shot at Salt Lake City’s “No Kings” march downtown, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill has filed charges in his death.

County prosecutors on Wednesday charged Matthew Scott Alder, a volunteer with the June 14 event’s safety team, with manslaughter in the deadly shooting. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

Alder’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.

Authorities say Alder fired his weapon at the protest after confronting a rifle-bearing man, who was later identified as 24-year-old Arturo Gamboa. Alder allegedly fired three shots; one struck Gamboa, wounding him, and another fatally struck Ah Loo. The shots sent thousands of protesters scattering downtown.
