Josh Brynes, the longtime Dodgers senior vice president of baseball operations, will be hired as the Rockies’ new general manager, a major league source confirmed Wednesday.
The Athletic first reported the news. The Rockies have not officially announced the hire.
With the Rockies, Byrnes will work under Paul DePodesta, Colorado’s new president of baseball operations. This will be Byrnes’ second stint with the Rockies.
Byrnes has worked for the Dodgers since 2014. He was one of Andrew Friedman’s first hires when Friedman was named president of baseball operations in Los Angeles. Byrnes supervised the club’s scouting and player development.
DePodesta and Byrnes have a long history together, and both began their baseball careers in Cleveland’s front office.
