Continued snow in the city on Wednesday forced the Denver Zoo to close its gates to the public, officials said.

“The majority of our animals will need to remain in their indoor habitats for their safety and comfort, and we will therefore not be able to provide an optimal daytime experience for our guests,” the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance said in a statement.

The zoo will reopen its doors for Zoo Lights, a holiday experience boasting 80 acres and more than 3 million lights, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Alliance.
