BIRMINGHAM — The Class 1-5A flag football AHSAA Super 7 title game was one-sided from beginning to end. When the clock hit zeroes, it was Moody hoisting the Blue Map trophy after defeating defending champion Montgomery Catholic 27-18 at Protective Stadium on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
It couldn't have started better for Moody. Senior Abi Gray snagged an interception on the second play of the title game. Serenity Rutledge rewarded Gray's effort with a touchdown pass to Zoey Terry.
It kept getting better for Moody on Montgomery Catholic's second drive because it saw sophomore Cheyenne Moore streaking down the sidelines on the right side of the field with a full head of steam. Moore intercepted Catholic QB Hayden Fitts and took it back it to the end zone to put Moody up by two scores.
