Londoners will face a 3.4 per cent property tax hike next year, a figure that includes a new addition of temporary rental assistance as part of the city budget finalized Wednesday.

Politicians voted 14-0 to grant the Housing Stability Bank, run by the Salvation Army, an additional $250,000 from city reserves for 2026 only. The funding will go toward financial assistance for low-income Londoners for rent and utilities to help them retain housing. Budget chair Elizabeth Peloza was absent.

The increase won’t move the needle on next year’s now-final tax hike, which represents a $51 increase for every $100,000 in a home’s assessed property value. Mayor Josh Morgan said after the meeting he does not intend to use his provincial strong mayor powers to veto council changes.
