Zootopia 2 broke box office records in its opening weekend, but it's still far from another record set in 2025 by China's Ne Zha 2 . During Thanksgiving weekend in 2024, Disney's Moana 2 had the best global opening for an animated film with $389 million. One year later, the studio beat its own record, as Zootopia 2 earned $559.5 million worldwide .

While the sequel's opening surpassed Moana 2 's record , it also passed the global debut of Ne Zha 2 , which previously set the record earlier this year with $431.2 million. It's the biggest opening of any movie in 2025, and the fourth best opening ever, behind Avengers: Endgame , Avengers: Infinity War , and Spider-Man: No Way Home .
