LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A former Kentucky state representative announced Wednesday he is joining the race for U.S. Senate Mitch McConnell's (R-KY) seat.
McConnell, the longest-serving party leader in Senate history before ceding the position in February 2024, is retiring when his current term ends. He was first elected to the Senate in 1984.
In a social media post, Charles Booker shared he is once again throwing his hat in the ring for McConnell's seat.
“I’m running for U.S. Senate because we need leadership in Washington that will fight for systemic change," he said. "With Mitch finally leaving, it is past time we have leadership that will stand up for regular people, and honor the movement to protect democracy, ensure justice, and end poverty.
