ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The man who was previously convicted of pointing a laser at a Metro Air Support helicopter has been sentenced.

Last year, Joshua Johnson, 44, was convicted of knowingly aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft. He has been sentenced to 21 months in prison.

On August 92024, shortly before 9:45 p.m., Johnson pointed a blue laser at a marked Metro Air Support helicopter while it was flying over the Benton Park neighborhood in St. Louis to support other officers.

A St. Louis County Police Department pilot and a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department pilot were temporarily blinded when the blue light flooded the cockpit.

The officers were able to track the beam to a vehicle below them, then tracked the vehicle as it drove down the street.
