LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY) - The outdoor skating rink in Lowville opens this weekend with a new Zamboni.
“Our last Zamboni that went down last year was probably brand new in 1977, so we’ve had two of those basically doing the bulk of the work for the last 10 years. We finally had to make the upgrade,” said JD Ross, a volunteer.
The new Zamboni was paid for through community donations, with help from the Lewis County Hockey Association and a grant from the Northern New York Community Foundation.
“I’m excited, the kids love it, and it keeps them off the streets. We have skates they can pick up in all sizes. There are times we have up to like 150 kids on the ice,” said Janet Lee, rink monitor.
