On November 20, Brooks RCMP began an investigation into the off-duty conduct of an RCMP member within their ranks.

As a result of the investigation, 40-year-old Corporal Michael Hagel, of the Brooks RCMP, has been charged with assault and assault by choking.

Cpl. Hagel was released on a release order and will appear in court on January 7. He has been suspended from duty with pay. Hagel has been a member of the RCMP for 9 years.

No further details have been released by the RCMP at this time.

Brooks is a city of approximately 15,000 people, located roughly 185 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
