Flint — The Genesee County Election Commission has denied petition language that sought to recall most of the Grand Blanc Township Board of Trustees after the township fire chief was placed on administrative leave.

The commission met Monday to consider recall petition language submitted by former township supervisor candidate Monica Shapiro. Shapiro filed the petition language against the board for allowing Fire Chief Jamie Jent to be placed on leave in October and then allowing him to be placed on probation when he was reinstated later that month.

While township officials have declined to say why Jent was placed on leave, Shapiro told The Detroit News the move, which happened after a Sept. 28 mass shooting and fire that killed four people at a Church of Latter-Day Saints in the townshi
