This potential criminal trial may come down to a judge or jury deciding whether alleged threats left on a voicemail were from a member of Clarington council or generated artificial intelligence.

This was the dilemma Peterborough Police were facing while investigating alleged Aug. 28 threats to former homicide detective Tom Dingwall, a rival of Clarington Councillor Corinna Traill who’s considering running for mayor.

And Wednesday, police made their judgement, charging Traill with two counts of uttering threats. She has vehemently denied the allegations, insisting it was AI and not her who made the threat in question.
