MINNESOTA, USA — With the cold weather and snow this week, you may be wondering when your local ice rink will be open for the season.
The answer depends on where you live.
In Minneapolis, park employees with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board are working to get the city’s 44 ice rinks open by Dec. 22.
Spokesperson Ben Johnson says some city rinks may open earlier, so residents should check the city’s website to see when the rinks will be ready.
“What we’ve heard from our community is this is really a treasured wintertime outdoor activity. People love their local neighborhood rink,” Johnson says.
A city spokesperson for Bloomington says parks employees started flooding the ice rinks on Tuesday and it typically “takes 7 to 10 days to build up the ice to the proper conditions.”
