SELAH, Wash. - Yakima County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters responded to a crash that killed a 16-year-old this morning.

Deputies responding to the rollover in the 6500 block of North Wenas Road discovered the road slick with ice.

Deputies said the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt, and intoxication is not believed to be a factor, said the sheriff’s office.

The young driver was a student at Selah High School. The school has been notified, and grief counselors are available to support students and staff during this difficult time.
