BOISE, Idaho — AAA is sharing safety tips for those buying real Christmas trees this holiday season.
AAA says its research shows that 60% of people who transported a live Christmas tree had it fall off or out of their vehicle at some point. Here are some tips to help you get the tree home:
Use the right vehicle for the job - a truck with a roof rack, a pickup truck with a longer bed, or a minivan with the back seats removed.
For safety, flag the end of the tree if it hangs away from your vehicle.
If you're tying the tree to your vehicle's roof, secure it with the trunk facing forward. Use strong rope or bungee cords to tie it down at the top, bottom, and middle, then tug from different angles to make sure it's secure.
