Police are investigating as a possible suicide the death of a man whose body was found hanging from a tree in Helena-West Helena on Wednesday, according to a news release from Helena-West Helena police.
A person flagged down an officer around 10:15 a.m. near the Hays Supermarket in Helena-West Helena after finding a body hanging from a tree in a nearby wooded area, police Chief Quanderius Sanders said. The body was identified as that of Alex Bennett, 35, of Lexa, about 8 miles west of the city.
There was no indication of foul play, Sanders said. In the release, police said the body would be sent to the state Crime Laboratory for an official determination of the cause and manner of death.
