RALEIGH, N.C. —
Former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has filed with the state's Board of Elections on Wednesday to be a candidate in the 2026 Senate race.
This comes after Cooper announced that he would run for the seat in July .
Cooper is already considered to be a front-runner in the primary.
On Tuesday, Republican Michael Whatley filed his paperwork to run for North Carolina's seat.
Current Senator Thom Tillis is not seeking reelection after serving two terms.
