LECLAIRE, Iowa (KWQC) - A LeClaire man was charged after a police presence nearby led to the closure of an elementary school.
Bridgeview Elementary School cancelled classes Wednesday due to a police presence in a nearby neighborhood.
The incident started around 1:46 a.m. with a man causing a disturbance in his home in the 300 block of Stagecoach Trail, according to a media release from the LeClaire Police Department.
Police said the man was possibly having a mental health episode and he was breaking windows throughout the home, destroying property, throwing things outside and threatening to hurt family members and law enforcement.
Officers also learned the man had access to multiple firearms inside the home.
Wesley Whitford, 32, of LeClaire was arrested at 6:10 p.m., officials said.
