[KWWL] -- A scientific journal is retracting a paper regarding the safety of the herbicide Roundup and its key ingredient, glyphosate.

The editor of the journal of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology stated there are "serious ethical concerns regarding the independence and accountability of the authors."

The paper , published in 2000, claimed that glyphosate posed no health risks to humans. However, Journal Editor-in-Chief Prof. Martin van den Berg, Ph.D, now says "the article's conclusions regarding the carcinogenicity of glyphosate are solely based on unpublished studies from Monsanto...". Monsanto was the maker of Roundup until it was acquired by Bayer in 2018.
