CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI women's basketball hosted Illinois State in its first MVC contest of the season. The Panthers came out firing on all cylinders and never looked back as the Cats held the lead for the entire matchup and took home a 68-54, conference-opener victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers came out of the gate hot with the first 11 points of the contest to jump ahead early and force an Illinois State timeout. The Redbirds knocked down the first shot out of the break, but UNI held a 10-7 advantage after the media timeout and took a 21-7 lead into the second quarter. Illinois State edged out the Panthers in the second frame with an 18-16 advantage in the 10 minutes, but the Cats still held a 12-point lead after the first half.
