A man has pleaded guilty to criminal charges in a 106 mph crash that left an off-duty police officer with serious injuries earlier this year.
Edwin Ramirez-Carranza, 21, of Lakewood, pleaded guilty on Monday to aggravated assault and to eluding police in connection with an earlier crash, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement issued Wednesday.
The crash happened at the intersection of New Hampshire and Cedar Bridge avenues in Lakewood on April 19.
Ramirez-Carranza‘s pickup truck was traveling at 106 mph at 12:10 a.m. when it went through a red light and hit a small car, authorities said.
The driver of the other car, an off-duty Lakewood Township Police Officer, was treated for serious injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and later released, officials
