AKRON, Ohio — Akron men’s basketball defeated Bucknell, 97-77, Wednesday night at James A. Rhodes Arena. It was their first meeting in 59 years.

Akron and Bucknell have only met on three occasions. The last meeting was during the 1976-77 season, which Akron won.

On Wednesday, the first half was close and there was never more than a four point difference in score until the final five minutes. With the game tied at 34 with 4:02 to play, the Zips outscored Bucknell 15-2 to take a 49-36 lead into halftime.

“I think our changing defenses were a big part of turning things around,” said Akron head coach John Groce. “I thought the zone that we played was effective and a big part of that run.”

A Shammah Scott 3-pointer started the run. Amani Lyles added six points, mostly at the line.
