Folk legend and Australian singer Ted Egan has died aged 93. Born in 1932 in Melbourne, Egan enjoyed a four-decade-long career that began in the late 1960s and was renowned for capturing the essence of the Australian spirit in his work. He released over 30 albums between 1969 and 2010. Ted's family confirmed his death in an emotional statement, saying: "It is with sadness, but also great pride that Nerys Evans and the Egan family mark the passing of our beloved partner, Dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and best mate Ted Egan.

"Ted passed peacefully at home this morning, as was his wish. We shared Ted with Territorians, Australians and the wider world. He lived a big and very generous life, spanning 93 years."
