East Brunswick-Spotswood-South River opened its season with a 7-4 victory over Bayonne-Belleville-McNair at ProSkate in Monmouth Junction.
Sebastian Whyte led the way for East Brunswick with a five-point game, scoring a power play goal and adding four assists. Joseph Hayes added two goals and an assist, while James Tomasini chipped in a goal and an assist.
East Brunswick jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Hayes, Whyte, and Tomasini. Bayonne fought back with three straight goals to tie the game, including a power play tally by Jack McAlary.
East Brunswick responded with three goals in the second period to take control. Marcello Ferrari, Sean Aronson, and Hayes all found the back of the net to give East Brunswick a 6-4 lead heading into the third.
