NORTH MYRTLE BEACH — Two dolphins were found dead on opposite ends of the South Carolina coast last week, but experts said the incidents should not raise alarms.

The Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network responded to two separate incidents involving dead juvenile female bottlenosed dolphins washing ashore, first in North Myrtle Beach on Nov. 23, then at Hilton Head Island Nov. 26.

“We’re not alarmed, and we don’t want people to feel alarmed,” said Lauren Rust, the organization’s executive director. “None of these cases seem related.”

The North Myrtle Beach dolphin was found to have mild pneumonia and a severe parasite load in her stomach. Rust’s team also found little food being digested in her stomach, which indicated she may not have felt well enough to eat.
