The £2 single bus fare cap across the Liverpool City Region, maintained by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, will soon come to an end.
The Metro Mayor confirmed that the fares will have to rise "at some point" because the scheme costs the Combined Authority £2 million a month to deliver.
The Liverpool City Region maintained the £2 cap even after the national fare limit was raised to £3, with almost £5 million poured into the transport budget to sustain the lower price until the end of 2025
The reduced fare has been successful in attracting more people, with over 1.6 million £2 tickets being purchased every month.
