The Department for Work and Pensions has been told to match the Triple Lock increase for both the old AND new state pensions. A Parliamentary website petition calls on the DWP to ensure the annual increase rises " by the same amount for both Old and New State Pension".
The petition states: " I would like the annual state pension increase to be the same amount for both the Old and New State Pension, based on the triple lock.
"Because inflation affects the cost of living equally, but each year the gap between both pensions can widen, which I think is unfair. Also, it can increase the amount of pensioners requiring extra benefits!" The petition, created by Brian Steven, has a 3 June 2026 deadline.
