University of Kentucky officials plan to use the largest donation in the school's history to build an arts district featuring new facilities and a park connecting its campus to downtown Lexington, according to a Dec. 2 news release from the university's Board of Trustees.

Officials said they would use the $150 million gift from the Bill Gatton Foundation to construct a new College of Fine Arts building and a "several-hundred-seat theater" for dance, music and theater productions. The plans also call for a new pavilion, with a park spanning several blocks on South Broadway and Bolivar Street, near Rupp Arena , the Distillery District and Gatton Park on the Town Branch .
