Syracuse, N.Y. — The team behind Spoon & Chopsticks has never been afraid of operating a restaurant in less-than-traditional settings.

The Korean restaurant originally opened in 2017 on the ground floor of the then-Skyline Apartment building on James Street — ironically, after the owners’ previous restaurant, Komachi , closed and was torn down to make way for The Marshall apartment complex on South Crouse Avenue.

Accessible through an inconspicuous door at the rear of the sprawling brick apartment complex, the original Spoon & Chopsticks didn’t look like much from the outside — if you could find it at all — but the dining area was surprisingly spacious. It was a hidden gem in the truest form.
