John Swinney has insisted a new national review into group-based child sexual abuse will be genuinely independent, rejecting claims that public bodies are marking their own homework.
The First Minister also said he had full confidence in Angela Constance after the Tories called for him to launch a Ministerial Code investigation into the Justice Secretary for “misleading parliament over grooming gangs”.
The row came less than 24 hours after Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth announced the probe into how public bodies have responded to claims of group-based child sexual abuse and exploitation.

The review will be carried out by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education, His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland, Healthcare Improvement Scotland and the Care Inspect
