The Labour Party government has been urged to introduce "mandatory" driving retests for drivers over age 70. A Parliamentary petition on the Labour government website urges ministers to act.
The petition urges the Labour Party government: " Introduce mandatory driving retests for drivers over the age of 70." It adds: " We want the Government to introduce mandatory driving retests for drivers over the age of 70.
"We think this will make the road safer for everyone: motorcyclists, pedestrians and car users." It adds: "This petition seeks to implement regular assessments of driving ability in older drivers: full driving retests, reaction time & hazards, manoeuvring ability and comprehensive eyesight examinations."
