The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued details of its "robust" crackdown on benefit fraud. The DWP , under the Labour Party government, has got extra powers to catch fraudsters, prevent overpayment and protect taxpayer’s money.
The DWP are now set to save the taxpayer £1.5 billion by 2029/2030 by being given now access to new data, modern tools and more powers to investigate fraud and recover money lost to benefit overpayments.
"Minister for Transformation Andrew Western MP said: It is right that as fraud against the public sector evolves, the government has a robust and resolute response. T he powers granted through the Bill will allow us to better identify, prevent and deter fraud and error, and enable the better recovery of debt owed to the taxpayer.
