CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — An injured owl receives care in Camden County after a deputy’s roadside rescue Tuesday morning.

Deputy Leon Austin rescued the owl while traveling to a call in Macks Creek. He spotted the bird on the side of the road and noticed its wing was sticking out abnormally.

Austin believes the owl was struck by a vehicle. He stopped to help the injured bird and arranged for its care.

This marks the second time Austin has rescued an owl. In March 2023, he responded to a report of an injured owl in Osage Beach. That bird was able to fly away on its own after a conservation agent examined it.
