THE VILLIAGES, Fla. (WCJB) - Governor Ron DeSantis announced plans for regulations on artificial intelligence (AI) in Florida.

DeSantis held a news conference in the Villages on Thursday morning.

The Governor introduced Megan Garcia, an Orlando mother who lost her son to suicide after he interacted with a chatbot online that convinced him to take his own life.

DeSantis says the Founding Fathers did not anticipate social media or AI, and lawmakers need to keep people safe from rapidly advancing technology.

Lawmakers will have to pass new legislation in the 2026 session to make these regulations law.
