In 2018, a portion of Highway 29 was named in honor of then-Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright.
On Dec. 4, South Carolina Department of Transportation commissioners voted unanimously to remove Wright's name from the road.
Wright resigned from office in May and in October pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud conspiracy, obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation, and conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.
