Police on Long Island say an 18-year-old food delivery worker was verbally assaulted while worshipping on a prayer rug in Island Park.
The unidentified victim was making a delivery at 6 p.m. Wednesday when he realized after completing the job that it was time for him to pray.
According to detectives, the victim removed a prayer mat from the trunk of his car, placed it on the ground and dropped to his knees.
“As the victim prayed, a neighboring resident began to yell at the victim and directed derogatory terms towards him,” the Nassau County Police Department said Thursday.
When the victim explained he was praying, Thomas McGarry, 67, allegedly threatened him with violence.
McGarry was later arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated harassment. He’s scheduled to appear in
