EUGENE, Ore. - A man was arrested after police discovered a pipe bomb in his vehicle following an attempt to evade law enforcement.
According to authorities, officers were at an apartment on Willakenzie Road on December 3 to arrest 43-year-old Melvin David Bennett for felony elude. Bennett had previously fled a traffic stop in Eugene.
When officers arrived, they found Bennett in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He was detained without incident. A device found in the vehicle was identified as a pipe bomb by the Metro Explosives Disposal Unit.
Bennett was taken to Lane County Jail and is facing charges of elude and unlawful possession of a destructive device.
